What it's about.

A favourite photo carries a story — a portrait, a pet, a special place. KnitYourPhoto translates that photo into a precise knitting pattern you can work stitch by stitch. The image becomes a chart, the chart becomes something you can hold in your hands.

The app calculates everything locally on your device — no cloud, no sign-in, no data collection, no advertising. And whatever can be knitted can just as easily be crocheted: the chart works for both techniques.

First chapter

From photo to pattern.

From your photo library to a finished chart in just a few steps.

Chart 01
Step 01

Import a photo

Choose a photo from your library. KnitYourPhoto automatically converts it into a knitting grid — you see at once how your motif takes shape stitch by stitch.

Chart 02
Step 02

Colours & gauge

Choose between 2 and 16 colours — the app optimises your photo and shows the required yarn colours clearly. Enter your personal gauge and the exact size of your finished piece is calculated.

Chart 03
Step 03

Four view modes

Work the way your project needs: preview, back & forth (flat knitting with mirrored return rows), knitting in the round or the written instructions — the text version row by row, where runs of the same colour are merged into entries like 5× F1 (for crochet 5 sc F1). The row column stays put as you scroll sideways, a legend explains the abbreviations, and completed rows are dimmed.

A note on philosophy: the purchase is a one-time thing. Updates are delivered for as long as the software is maintained; no subscription arises from this. We consider this the most honest form of software distribution.
